My first impression with HAVE YOU MET MISS JONES? (Tr.1) is "What a awesome tune it is! But not for Violins..." Because it's original key is in F major, moreover the chord progression in the B section is too hard for Violins. But I wanted to beat it with style. Mamiko, the pianist gave me some tips for Violin solo. Plus I became a regular visitor for Toshio Takahashi Piano Trio's jam sessions. After trial and error finally this tune became my repertoire. In this take, we inserted a second riff for CONFIRMATION you know, beacuse I find that this one is very nice for Atsushi, the drummer's solo.
Oppositely, I arranged the strings in very classical style for MONA LISA (Tr.2). The strings was overdubbed by myself and this is first time for me to play Viola.
ANDANTE (Tr.3) is from Solo Violin Sonata No.2 by Johann Sebastian Bach. Bach's works for Solo Violin are my favourite in classical pieces. And I'd like to play it in swing jazz style like "Air on G string". I played solo part with few vibrato for religious sound and tried various trill (because of respect for JSB!) instead of no pitch bend in swing part.
HASH-A-BYE (Tr.4) for Solo Violin is my original arrangement work. Recently I'm doing a lot of work on Solo Violin for other than classical music, for example Rock'n'roll or Jazz. If you have any interests with my arrangement work, you can find the sheet music on SheetMusicPlus.com Check it out!
In WORK SONG (Tr.5), you can hear the melody from another tune AMAZING GRACE. That is ansor song from me to WORK SONG. I think that I can't finish WORK SONG with AMAZING GRACE. It must repeat to WORK SONG after AMAZING GRACE. Because work songs are moanin' from slaves. The work songs must go on, I imagined.
So, that's all for first stage if it was a live performance.
Opening of second stage, finally Toshio Takahashi, guest pianist will coming!
Recording of HOW HIGH THE MOON (Tr.6) and I'LL WAIT FOR YOU (Tr.7) was fulfilled thrills and so excited! I and Mr.Takahashi played in jam session style. It means that we CAN'T retake and any retouch! Mr.Takahashi showed me that "This is the JAZZ, isn't it?"
I sat the theme for QUISAS, QUISAS, QUISAS (Tr.8, "Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps") is "a Quarrel of her and him". My violin roled "she" and Naoki, the bassist roled "he" with stylish his bass.
HANA WA SAKU (Tr.9, "Flowers Will Bloom") is supporters' song for the Tohoku earthquake in Japan (2011). I'd like to play this symbolic music of reconstruction with new Jazz style. At first I changed it in Jazz-Waltz style, after Mamiko it reharmonized.
Last tune is IT DON'T MEAN A THING (Tr.10) with straight jam session style. "It ain't got that swing"!
Because of my father (he plays Jazz piano), I played also Jazz not only Classic from my childfood. Sometime I lost love with Jazz, but now I'm falling love with Jazz music! This album is "THE MY JAZZ" compilation.
Special thanks to
Mamiko,Naoki, Atsushi, Mr.Takahashi, recording engineers, Kyomi, the designer, my friends and family, and you!
